The New FICEP Excalibur is the first single spindle gantry drilling line to process beams for the steel construction and fabrication industries using a sub axis for scribing and milling and it also features a tool changer.
A set of machined 9" rolls allow the drilling unit to be cantilevered along the loading table without interfering with drill chips or with anything else on the floor. A rack and pinion system guarantees the drill system's programmed positioning and a laser sensor locates the position of the work piece and activates the working cycle.
The piece to be processed does not move as it is firmly clamped in the drilling position by an automatic hold-down (top and bottom clamping). A second non-contact laser is furnished to automatically shift programmed hole patterns to compensate for mill tolerance deviations.
This simple yet extremely productive solution offers both small and medium sized structural steel fabricators a high performance drill line for a third of the investment of a three spindle line.
